Update January 24:  The victim has been identified as Amanda Jean Blessum, according to the Medical Examiner's office.

January 23, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)Update 5:30 p.m.--A 19-year old Ramona woman driving a silver Kia Spectra was killed in a collision with a Propane truck at 2:10 p.m. on San Vicente Road, jsut east of Wildcat Canyon Road near the Lakeside/Ramona boundary.

NORTHBOUND HIGHWAY 67 RAMP TO I-8 WEST CLOSED SATURDAY MORNING

January 13, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)—Due to guardrail repairs, the connector ramp from northbound State Route 67 to westbound Interstate 8 will be closed Saturday morning. The closure will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m., according to the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans).

Detour signs will direct motorists to continue northbound on SR-67 to Bradley Avenue west, to southbound SR-67 and then to westbound I-8.

SDG&E CELEBRATES SAN DIEGO’S BIGGEST ENERGY SAVERS

 Winner Achieves Nearly 50 Percent Energy Savings

January 5, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)– An energy efficiency program piloted by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) succeeded in more than doubling energy savings among participating residential customers during a three-month period. Erica Faunce of Lakeside, Calif., was declared the Biggest Energy SaverSM contest winner in San Diego after achieving a 46.5 percent energy savings, equal to 1,356 kilowatt hours for her family of three, and won a new laptop computer.

GARAGE FIRE IN LAKESIDE

 Update 8:35 p.m.: The fire is now knocked down and residents are cleared to return to their residences.

January 7, 2012 (Lakeside)--Firefighters are on the scene of a garage fire  at 12097 Gay Rio Drive in Lakeside.  "The fire is putting up a lot of smoke and they're getting people out of the houses nearby," ECM photographer Dennis Richardson told ECM.

One person is reportedly suffering smoke inhalation and will be transported to a local hospital.

WILDCAT CANYON ROAD SHUT DOWN

 

December 28, 2011 (Lakeside) – A motorcyclist down in the 11400 block of Wildcat Canyon Road has prompted shutdown of the highway.  The accident was reported at 3:27 p.m.  Traffic is blocked south of Barona, CHP reports.

HUNTER AIDE KILLED IN LAKESIDE CAR WRECK

December 25, 2011 (Ramona)—Nelson Edward “Mac” MacWilliams, 54, has been identified by the Medical Examiner’s office as the driver who died December 20 in a rollover accident on Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside. RamonaPatch.com reports that MacWilliams worked in Congressman Duncan Hunter’s El Cajon office, handling military and veterans’ issues.

HOSPICE PATIENT KILLS SELF AFTER SWAT STAND-OFF IN LAKESIDE

November 23, 2011 (Lakeside) – A three hour stand-off with a SWAT team has ended with the suicide of a 75-year-old Lakeside man. The man, a hospice patient, reportedly had leukemia and had been told he had only days to live, a neighbor told 10 news.

MOTORIST INJURED IN LAKESIDE CRASH DIES IN HOSPITAL

November 19, 2011 (Lakeside) -- Esaw O'Guin, Jr., 27, has died of injuries sustained in a crash that occurred November 17 on southbound Highway 67 near Slaughterhouse Canyon Road in Lakeside. O'Guin, who was wearing a seatbelt, was driving a Toyota Camry when for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle.

November 17, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – All lanes are blocked due to an accident on Highway 67 at Slaughterhouse Canyon. Mercy Air is attempting to land and a rescue is in progress for multiple patients in a crash involved a PT Cruiser, a Toyota, and a third vehicle.

PINE VALLEY TEEN PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF CHIEF PETTY OFFICER IN THE NAVAL SEA CADET CORPS

 November 16, 2011 (El Cajon) – Kaitlin Ortmeier, 16, a Junior at Granite Hills High School, was promoted to NSCC Cadet Chief Petty Officer at a ceremony at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado on November 13. The rank of the Chief Petty Officer or CPO is the highest rank a cadet can earn, and the equivalent of Scouting’s “Eagle” rank.

Naval Sea Cadet Kaitlin Ortmeier, 16 has the anchors of a Chief Petty Officer pinned on her by her grandfather, Frank Ortmeier, who served in the Navy as a Gunner’s Mate from 1958 to 1963.

SHERIFF RELEASES LICENSE PLATE OF VEHICLE USED IN ARMED ROBBERY OF BARONA CASINO

November 9, 2011 (Lakeside) – Four masked robbers, armed with guns, pulled off a brazen robbery at Barona Casino early this morning only to leave cash behind in an abandoned Ford Limited edition Explorer SUV.  The dark green vehicle had a California license plate of 4NA416 and a CMH bumper sticker.

These homes have a variety of sustainable applications from the construction of the homes, products, landscape and conservation. The variation from new build construction to renovations of older homes provides a broad display of opportunities and ideas for the next home owner touring the sites.

Oct. 31, 2011 (San Diego's East County)  – Local community activist Connie Frankowiak will once again make a run for Congressman Duncan Hunter’s (R-Alpine) seat in the United States Congress in 2012. In June, she will face off against fellow Democrat David Secor, Tea Party activist Terri Linnell, and Congressman Hunter in the new “top two” open primary. As the name states, only the top two vote getters will move on to the general election in November.

LAKESIDE DEATH RULED A HOMICIDE


October 20, 2011 (Lakeside) – The body of a male found dead October 18 inside a home in the 11400 block of Rocky Lane, Lakeside has been ruled a homicide.

“It was violent,” Lt. Larry Nesbit with the San Diego Sheriff’s office confirmed. Identity has not yet been released pending identification by the Medical Examiner and notification of family.

SUPERVISOR JACOB SEEKS SHUT-DOWN OF SUNDAY POWERLINK FLIGHTS DUE TO RESIDENTS’ COMPLAINTS


October 19, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – Residents along the construction route for SDG&E’s Sunrise Powerlink Project have lodged noise complaints with the County. Now Supervisor Dianne Jacob has asked that the County revoke a waiver given that authorized SDG&E to fly on Sundays and a holiday weekend. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) also granted permission for the extended hours on federal BLM lands.

HOMICIDE DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING DEATH IN LAKESIDE

October 19, 2011 (Lakeside) – A male body was found in a home in the 11400 block of Rocky Lane in Lakeside yesterday morning. Deputies responded to a call at 10:38 a.m. and requested that the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail respond due to suspicious circumstances at the scene.
